SAFE BIRTHS

West African women face a risk of death almost 4,000 times higher than in Europe & North America. Care by skilled health professionals before, during and after childbirth can save the lives of women and newborns (WHO). Since 2004, GACE has donated medical supplies and partnered with the Togo national health care system to provide underprivileged mothers with prenatal and delivery care, reducing their risk to that of the rest of the world.

HEALTH EDUCATION

The second part of our approach is to build women’s capacities to sustain their own health and that of their children. We train expecting mothers in nutrition, hygiene, post-natal self care and birth spacing, and life-threatening health issues from female genital mutilation (FGM).

MEDICAL SUPPLIES

Medical infrastructure is outdated and underfunded in many West African communities. We have partnered with Project CURE, the Portland NeoNatal Hospital, and others to provide needed medical equipment and supplies to over 50 clinics.
